purpose of public school
The main purpose of public school is it plays a huge part in kids’ social life. Even something as simple as riding the bus to school kids make friends and sit together and get to talking. These skills are skills that cannot just be taught. since the pandemic I have had issues with my social anxiety. I find it hard to interact with. others because of the period where i didn’t have to. One of my professor’s the other day told the class a story. In this story he tells us how he had a student who came to class everyday dressed close to perfect. One day he noticed his student looked a little dirt and not so perfect. For the next 2 days he noticed the student stopped taking care of himself and didn’t look as perfect as he normally does. He came to figure out that the student’s mom had left the house and never came back. This student was getting up every day going on the bus getting himself ready for the past 3 days with no adult in the house. this shows the power public school has on kids. This student regardless of what was going on his life the only consistent and thing he knew wouldn’t leave him was school and his teachers. Public school isn’t just what kids learn it can be some kids whole reason for getting up every day. Seeing their friends seeing the teachers who care about them. The social aspects of public school cannot just be replaced .
Hi Hanna! I really enjoyed reading your blog post. I have also struggled with social anxiety due to the pandemic and not having to interact with new people for so long. Even though I have never had great self-confidence, I was very bubbly and out-going in high school. This was because I was able to learn how to socialize myself through elementary and middle school, just like you were saying. I agree that these social skills are so important to teach to young children so that they are able to use them throughout the rest of their life with ease.
