remaining in the margins

 remaining in the margins

some stories are told, and some are left in the margin. who are the students left in the margins ? what does it mean to be in the margin? These are questions I want to dicuss and hopefully answer in this blog. Typical white english speaking students are a majority of our classroom in the us. do you ever wonder why ? When we think of the typical american student we think of qualitys that fit a privilaged students.

The stories told arent always the best stories. We hear alot about white historians and white heroes. As we get older we find out more about these so called heros did behind the story we heard in school. One story that comes to mind is the white guy who comes to america and takes over the land. Come to find out in the story of pocahontas. This white man was seen as such a hero. As we learn more we realize this man wasnt much of a hero. he kicked people off the land and would rape and kidnap these women. This is one story that should be told but the right way. Pocahantos was the one left in the margins in this story.

All stories have 2 sides. We often forget this when it comes to america history. We always listen to the white english speaking side. Students need to hear the other side. I wish i would have learned the people directly effected in history from thier point of view. Pocahontas - Quotes, John Smith & Facts - Biography
